MAY/JUNE

 CLASSROOM TIMES

          Reading/Writing – Thank you for all of your help and support with our classroom reading initiatives. I am very proud of each and every student for their reading successes!  

     Spelling – We will be spelling words with the following emphasis on each week:      

  Lesson 33       Prefixes (pre- and dis-)                          

  Lesson 34       Lesson common vowels (ie, ei)                     

  Lesson 35         Irregular plurals

 Lesson 36          Review of previously learned words                                                                                                                                       

      English – We will be focusing on capitalization, punctuation, complete sentences, pronouns, synonyms, adjectives, antonyms, and contractions.

      Math – We will be completing our last math unit called “Exploring Greater Numbers and Operations.” This involves numbers to 1,000, comparing and ordering greater numbers, adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers, and an introduction to multiplication and division.        

     Science – We will be completing our last hands-on unit called “New Plants.” 

     Social Studies – We will finish our last unit called Unit 6 “People in the Marketplace.”                         

                        

Special Events       

   *Our May Scholastic book order is due on Friday, May 14^th. This will be our last book order for the year. Thank you for your support! Please make the checks payable to Scholastic Book Clubs.  

   *Our SCE Art Show will be on May 4^th from 6:00-7:00pm. 

   *Our 2^nd Grade Grandparents for Lunch Day is on Thursday, May 6^th at 11:45am.  

   *There will be an early dismissal on Friday, May 7^th and there will be no school on Monday, May 31^st due to celebrating Memorial Day!

   *Our second grade field trip to Shaver’s Creek is on Thursday, May 13^th.  

   *We will be celebrating our classroom students’ summer birthdays on Tuesday, June 1^st. 

   *There will be a Double Dutch Assembly on May 17^th from 9:30-11:00.

   *Our SCE Fun Day is on Tuesday, June 2^nd.

   *Our last day of school is on Thursday, June 3^rd. We will be having our Award Assembly at 9:00am, report cards will be given, and there will be an early dismissal at 11:30am.  

        Birthdays!   

    *We will be celebrating Dana’s May classroom birthday! 

    *We will be celebrating Ethan’s, Isaac’s, Sarah’s, Kenzie’s, Larett’s, Caitlin’s, Madison’s, and Raeanna’s summer birthdays on Tuesday, June 1^st.

    

Note:  Starting this year, due to certain food allergies, we are not permitted to bring in any food items. If you choose, your child is permitted to bring in a non-food item to celebrate their birthday in our classroom.
