SPRING COVE MIDDLE SCHOOL “Kids in the Middle" |
The following information is provided to help keep you informed:
1. SCMS Weather Station - The seventh grade students at Spring Cove Middle School will be studying the weather this year in more detail and hopefully this learning experience will be greatly enhanced by an innovative program called Weather Bug Achieve. The Weather Bug station is a new instructional tool added this year to the middle school 7th grade science curriculum located at the SCMS in room 206. Thanks to the support of the Spring Cove Education Foundation the weather bug station project has been completed. The Weather Bug program is an award winning, interactive, learning program that seamlessly integrates real-time local and national weather data and camera images into a range of science math technology and geography lessons. The students will be involved in predicting local weather and producing local weather reports for the Spring Cove Area. Please stay tuned for local weather updates and weather news. Did you know? That during the month of December the avg. temperature has been a low of 24 degrees and high of 40 degrees. We had only .93 inches of rainfall in November.
2. Students of the Month - On a monthly basis, teacher grade level teams select a student(s) of the month. The criteria for selecting students are based on different factors. The factors may be school or community related. Examples may include the student earning an award in the community, a student who has been especially cooperative with a teacher, athletic accomplishments, music accomplishments, academic accomplishments and recognition for either school or community service. A student may earn this award once during the school year. The December Students of the Month are – Kelsey Dick, Cody Thompson, Andrew Brumbaugh. Heidi Martin, Breanna Dawson and Jason Mobley
3. Ski Club – The Spring Cove Middle School Ski Club is thriving this year with over 50 members-including 15 new skiers and boarders. Members are anxiously awaiting a snowy forecast from Mr. Snyder’s Weather Bug program hoping for massive amounts of snow to blanket the ski slopes. Beginning in January members will travel to Blue Knob Ski Resort on Friday nights where they will enjoy one of Pennsylvania’s most beautiful seasons: winter.
4. Homework Concerns - This year more than ever it seems more students are completing less homework. Assignments are available on line at the SCMS School Website under the heading of Homework Journal. The SCMS Learning support staff updates the homework information on this site on a weekly basis. It would only make sense to conclude that students that do not complete assignments will most likely fail, please encourage your child to complete their homework. If you have questions about your child’s progress please contact his/her teacher by phone or by email.
