Guided Reading Tips Home and family involvement enhances the work done at school. Your child will be bringing home books to read to you. Here are some tips you can use when reading with your child. 1. Find a quiet place. 2. When your child comes to a tricky or difficult part in the book, please remind them to use the strategies that they learned at school. These strategies include: a. Thinking about the story b. Checking the picture c. Getting your mouth ready to say the word. d. Looking for familiar chunks in the word. e. Asking whether what they said made sense. 3.
