Mrs. Barbarini’s
Classroom Procedures
Classroom Rules and Discipline
Classroom rules are simple and to the point:
1.
Follow directions.
2.
Respect.
3.
Stay on task.
School rules are to be followed at all times, as well.
Each week all students will receive 5 Barbarini Bucks and will be fined for disruptive, irresponsible, or inappropriate behavior.
A student who chooses to repeatedly break a rule will be asked to fill out a discipline form. A pink discipline form will then be signed by myself and then brought home for a signature of a parent. A discipline form denotes a detention. Three discipline forms within a week will result in an office detention. Five discipline forms will require a conference between the teacher, student, and parents to resolve the problem.
Jobs/Barbarini Bucks
Students apply for and are interviewed for various positions in the classroom. They are then paid weekly for completing their jobs. This provides them with a similar to real life experience and most students really enjoy the Barbarini Buck program. The Reward Shop provides them with the opportunity to spend their earnings in many ways. This economic experience is a fun way to learn the value of hard work and spending.
Homework Policy
Assignments are to be recorded daily in the student’s assignment book.
We will have a daily Study Hall period which will allow students ample time to write all their assignments down. Since we change classes this allows time to make sure students have the correct assignments; all assignments are written on the board.
Daily homework assignments are expected to be returned the next day. Failure to have homework assignments completed results in a detention and affects the student’s grade. Of course, there are extenuating circumstances and a note can eliminate the grade penalty but the student will be expected to complete the assignment during detention. You can jot a note right in the assignment book as to why the assignment was not completed. The student should bring the note to my attention first thing that morning. Incompletion of a long term assignment will result in a detention until the assignment is turned in and points will be lost daily.
Book Orders
I encourage the purchase of books through the Scholastic Book Club. I will send all their book orders which include Trumpet and Carnival. There are some terrific deals in these order forms and I include them all so you can get the best deals. They will go home at the beginning of each month and will be returned by the middle of the month.
If your child is absent. . .
A note of excuse is required by the office. The student is responsible for getting their missed work and completing it in a timely manner. If you wish to have work sent home at the end of the day with another student or you will pick it up; I would appreciate notice as early as possible to compile it from all his/her teachers.
Folders and Assignment Books
The students will continue to use organizational folders and assignment books. Folders and assignment books should come home everyday. At this time fifth grade has decided to check assignment book signatures on Thursdays. Parents need to read and discuss with their students the assignments on Wednesday night and sign the assignment book. Graded papers with a letter or number grade will be sent home at this time as well in the pocket labeled “Graded Papers”. We will remind students that their assignment books need to be signed on Wednesday nights. This allows them to take some of the responsibility for their own assignment books but also allows teachers and parents to keep a tab on their progress. If a student does not keep up with this procedure a special daily check and signing may be imposed.
Folders contain pockets labeled for organization. The first pocket is for homework assignments. The next pocket contains completed papers; these are papers completed in class and should be removed nightly. Graded papers will have a letter grade and score on them and will be sent home on Wednesday nights for parents to view. The final pocket is for important papers that the student needs to refer back to occasionally and should not be removed. Folders should be cleaned out on weekly.

Water Bottles
Water is an important need of the physical functioning of the brain. I allow water bottles to be brought to school and used during “down” times or breaks. The students will keep them at the base of their desks. The bottles should be tightly lidded and I suggest freezing during hot months. There will also be specific times for filling water bottles during the day.
Birthdays
Students are welcome to bring in a birthday snacks on their birthday. There are 24 students in our class. We will share the snack at the end of the day during study hall.
If your student is having a birthday party and not everyone in the class is invited, I ask that you mail the invitations to the other students and don’t send invitations to be handed out in school to spare those not invited feelings.
Parties
There are three parties scheduled through out the school year: Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day. I will divide the class into three groups to cover supplies and needs of the party. Look for a note close to the time of the party for more details. If there is anyone who would like to serve as a room person and organize and conduct the parties please contact me with your ideas.
Well, I think I covered a lot but I am sure there are some things I will need to expand upon and or add. Keep an eye on my web site for more details and up and coming events and information.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if there are any questions.
