Mrs. Barbarini’s
Classroom Procedures
C
lassroom Rules and Discipline Plan
Classroom rules are simple and to the point:
1.
Follow directions.
2.
Respect.
3.
Stay on task.
School rules are to be followed at all times, as well.
Each week all students will receive 5 Barbarini Bucks and will be fined for disruptive or inappropriate behavior.
A student who chooses to repeatedly break a rule will be asked to fill out a discipline form at the desk and take a time out to adjust their behavior. The discipline form will then be signed by myself and then brought home for a signature of a parent. A discipline form denotes a detention. Three discipline forms within a week will result in an office detention.
Seven Day Schedule
The district has adopted a seven day schedule for itinerants:
Day 1 – PE Day 5- Art
Day 2- Music Day 6-
Day 3-Library
Day 4-
Homework Policy
Assignments are to be recorded daily in the student’s assignment book. We will have a daily Study Hall period which will allow students with ample time to write all their assignments down. Since we change classes this allows time to make sure students have the correct assignments; all assignments are written on the board.
In fifth grade we have two types of assignments: daily and long term. Daily assignments will be written in the daily spaces and long term assignments will be written in the large block at the end of the week. Long term assignments will be accompanied with a description of the assignment and a rubric that explains the grading scale.
Daily assignments are expected to be returned the next day. Failure to have homework assignments completed results in a detention and affects the student’s grade. Of course, there are extenuating circumstances and a note can eliminate the grade penalty but the student will be expected to complete the assignment during detention. You can jot a note right in the assignment book as to why the assignment was not completed. The student should bring the note to my attention first thing that morning. Incompletion of a long term assignment will result in a detention until the assignment is turned in and points will be lost daily. The assignment is expected to be completed at home; if possible, they may work on it during detention as well.
Weekly homework: I ask my homeroom and reading students to read 20 minutes three days a week. Any days they choose. I ask you initial a calendar on an IRP (Independent Reading Program) sheet and that will returned at the end of the month. It is part of the reading grade. A small reward will be given monthly for completing the assignment. There is scientific evidence that reading 20 minutes a day can increase vocabulary and reading skills significantly.
Book Orders
I encourage the purchase of books through the Scholastic Book Club. I will send all their book orders. There are some terrific deals in these order forms and I include them all so you can get the best deals. They will go home at the beginning of each month and will be returned by the middle of the month the 15th.
If your child is absent. . .
A note of excuse is required by the office. The student is responsible for getting their missed work and completing it in a timely manner. If you wish to have work sent home at the end of the day with another student or you will pick it up; I would appreciate notice as early as possible to compile it from all his/her teachers.
Folders and Assignment Books
The students will continue to use organizational folders and assignment books. At this time fifth grade has decided to check assignment book signatures on Thursdays. We will remind students that their assignment books need signed Wednesday nights. This allows them to take some of the responsibility for their own assignment books but also allows teachers and parents to keep a tab on their progress. If a student does not keep up with this procedure a special daily check and signing may be imposed.
