Reading Round-up
Our language arts program consists of shared reading, guided reading, spelling, and kidwriting.
One component of your child's reading will be guided reading. This program allows the children to read in a small group setting according to their instructional reading levels and to be guided toward different strategies to use when trying to figure out words. The students will bring home a book to read each day whenever we have Guided Reading.

There will be a new spelling list each week, which corresponds to a word family(ies) and high frequency words being worked on in class. The children should practice the words each evening. A practice test is given. A little note will be sent home if all the words are spelled correctly and the child does not need to take the final test on Friday.

Writing is included in a variety of ways. We do kidwriting and assigned topic writing. Kidwriting occurs daily and provides an opportunity for students to self-select topics that are of interest to them. Sometimes our writing assignments are completed as a team teaching effort by the classroom teacher and the Title 1 reading teacher. Different writing genre are included in the curriculum.
