  pic Kindergarten Scheduled Activities

Kindergarten provides a place and situation for your child to begin his/her formal learning.  The different subjects and activities in our kindergarten will provide a foundation for your child’s future learning. In kindergarten we approach learning as something that is fun and not pressuring.  Our program includes:

1.       Reading Readiness - This is development of visual and auditory training of beginning sounds and words.

2.       Language Time - This planned program is designed to stimulate spoken language.  The emphasis is on understanding speech and talking and thinking

through activities that are motivating.

3.       Math - In math, the children will learn to recognize and print numerals, count objects, and recognize geometric shapes.

4.       Handwriting - Using the Peterson Directed Handwriting method, the students learn the correct formation of letters and numerals.

5.       Science and Social Living - We discuss the basic awareness of home and environment.  Our hands-on science units are "Wood and Paper" and "Animals Two by Two".

6.       Health and Safety - Basic rules for group and personal care, good health, and safety are discussed.

7.       Story Time - Reading to children is an important part of our program.  During this time, we emphasize attentiveness and genuine interest in listening to stories.

8.       Music - The children participate in various rhythm activities and group singing.

9.       Art - This area can be your child’s individually created project or a teacher guided lesson.  With the teacher-guided lesson, we hope to teach skills such as following directions, cutting with scissors, and holding crayons and pencils properly.  Art is a fun way of developing a child’s finger muscles, which in turn gives him/her more control in handwriting.

10.     Guidance - In this program, your child will learn social rules and ways of dealing with emotional needs.

11.      Computer - At computer class, the children have the opportunity to both practice academics areas of need and use their creative talents to produce projects.

12.       Playtime- This is a fun but structured part of our program.  During playtime, they develop creativity, sharing, taking turns, problem solving, and eye-hand coordination.

13.      Physical Education- Our kindergarten students now have gym class.  Sneakers must be worn on gym days.  Some classes may be held outdoors if the weather permits.
