Exploring Centertime
Kindergarten students will be working in various centers throughout our room. We will have a block of time during the week which the children will choose the centers he/she would like to work in. Your child will complete a form as each center is chosen on different days. The following is a list of the available centers that your child may be choosing to work on and a few of the activities they may include. During the year, activities in the centers will change.
Writing
Center: tracing letters, copying letters and words, writing sentences and stories
Math
Center: counting sets, identifying numerals, ordering numerals, making patterns, measuring, identifying shapes
Computers
Center: developing mouse skills, language arts games, math games, creative arts games
Reading Center:
story sequencing, matching uppercase/lower
case letters,
identifying beginning sounds, language arts games
Puzzle Center:
working cooperatively or independently on
puzzles of varying difficulty and various skills
Listening Center: listening to stories on tapes and following along in a book, using puppets to act out story parts
Art Center:using various art materials to create projects, developing hand-eye coordination, cutting skills, tracing
Science Center: using magnets, portable microscopes, science magazines with 3D glasses, binoculars, color glasses, nature View Masters, stethoscope, rocks, shells, fossils, etc.
Building Center: designing structures, counting blocks, sorting, making patterns, problem solving
Silly Pool Center: measuring, comparing, weighing using various materials
Housekeeping Center: measuring, organizing, sorting, comparing, weighing, reading menus and prices
