Discipline System

   I have implemented a “light system” in my classroom as a discipline strategy.  I have a chart with a library pocket for each child glued to it.  In each pocket is a green, yellow, red, and blue index card.  The students all start each day on green.  If they break a rule, they go to yellow.  This is a warning.  If they break another rule, their card is turned to red, and they owe 15 minutes of recess.  If any additional rules are broken, their card is changed to blue.  This blue card is sent home telling parents what rule(s) were broken.  Also, this blue card must be signed by the parent, with the student writing a sentence on what will change tomorrow.  The card must be returned to me the following day, otherwise the student does not get recess until the blue card is returned.  If the card is not received within a two day period, I will contact the parents.
