OVERVIEW OF SCSD DISTRICT WEB SITE

Design Theory:
We wanted our web site to be active not stagnet. It is very time consuming for one individual to create/update content. We also, did not want teachers to be programming. They do not have the time or necessary skill set/training. We wanted to communicate better and faster. We wanted to use technology to save us money.
OUTREACH WAS OUR ANSWER
We have many individuals creating content. The owner of a page is the Administrator who is responsible for the department, Principal who is responsibility for building, teacher responsible for their page, and sponsor/coach responsible for their page. We use login id for all staff and some student groups, coaches (if not staff) and some parents who are in-charge of an organization (Boosters, PTO). All teacher pages are viewable to public. We have pages that are only viewable for signed in users, like employee handbook etc. The approval process is only used when students are creating content, the sponsor/coach will determine when to make it active. (District's Organizational Chart in theory) Aprox. 250 people creating content.
Audience:
Student, Staff, Parents, School Board, Community, Adult Learners, and students’ relatives.
And we are not sure who all looks and uses our pages. We have teachers from other districts and states emailing our teachers and other organizations making great comments about our site. The latest is below:
Hi Linda! (SCSD ELEM PRINC)
Kelly G in our office typed the above into the search box and guess what came up?? Your school district website! :)
He was very impressed with the links and set up of your district website! I must say after looking at it, I am too!
Way to go, Spring Cove! Happy National Hugging Day.

Training:
Training was conducted first with administration and principals. Next administrators/Principals secretaries. Then teachers, coaches, students in this order.
Training was conducted in the summer, after school and on in-service days. We did not make it mandatory for teachers, but they saw how creating a web page would help them communicate and how it help cut down wasted web searching during class time. We continue to train new teachers, and refresh those who need extra help.
Publicity Plan for rollout: http://springcove.schoolnet.com/outreach/district/technology/outreach/
Our site was publicized in 3 local newspapers, teacher and principal monthly newsletters, and district newsletter to the entire community. We have our web page URL on all letterhead, most of our email signature lines, on everything that we make for tokens gifts i.e.: refrig. magnets. We have done demos for allot of schools in Pennsylvania through the PA Department of Education Digital Grant Process. We had a realtor’s forum, showing them how to use our web site for their clients. We had Parent Awareness Workshops.
