Dear Parent/Guardian,
Today President Obama delivered a national address directly to students in a live televised broadcast. Some of our teachers and students had the opportunity to view this address in classrooms across the district. In case you did not view the speech or were interested in reading the text of the speech, the following link will take you to the prepared remarks.

Dear Parent/Guardian:
President Obama will deliver a national address directly to students on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. The address is to be broadcast live on most television networks and on the White House's Web site ( http://www.whitehouse.gov/live/ ) at 12PM Eastern time and is expected to last about fifteen minutes. This was announced last week by Education Secretary Arne Duncan.
Mr. Duncan says President Obama intends to "challenge students to work hard, set educational goals and take responsibility for their learning." Obama will also call for a "shared responsibility" among students, parents and educators to maximize learning potential.
Tommy Vietor, a White House spokesman, told FOXNews.com "The speech is about the value of education and the importance of staying in school as part of his effort to dramatically cut the dropout rate. It's not a policy speech."
Some of our students will have the opportunity to view this address in classrooms across the district. However, some parents have called to request that their child not participate in watching the address. We will honor these requests provided that the parent/guardian sends a written note to the building principal.
