Please join us in congratulating Dr. Ramon C. Burket for being chosen as

2008 Volunteer of the Year

A local physician, Dr. Ramon C. Burket, has been named the Foundation’s 2008 Volunteer of the Year in recognition of his many years of service to the Spring Cove School District and our local community. Dr. Burket has served the district in many ways, but is perhaps most well known for his long-term service as physician to the Central High School football team, having been present on the sidelines continuously since 1965. He has also served as the school district physician since 1965 and on the Spring Cove School Board of Directors from 1969 to 1975.

In addition to his volunteer activities with the school district athletic programs, Dr. Burket has volunteered his services to the district to assist in the recovery of money through the Federal ACCESS Medicare System. Through his unselfish efforts, the district has been able to recover in excess of $500,000 in funds that have been used to support Special Education programs.

Dr. Burket is the son of Ross S. (deceased) and Mildred Burket, both long-time residents of Roaring Spring. He is a 1953 graduate of the Roaring Spring High School and a 1957 graduate of Juniata College. After graduating from Temple Medical School in 1961, he served a one-year internship at the Altoona Hospital and began his family practice in Altoona. Shortly thereafter, he relocated his office to Roaring Spring and has enjoyed a successful family practice here for over 40 years. Dr. Burket is also a Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Burket is the father of three sons: Kevin, Jeff, and Marty and two other children, Andrea Day and Scott Paul. He and his wife, Kaye Smith Burket, reside in Roaring Spring.
