What is the Spring Cove Cyber School?
The Spring Cove Cyber School is an educational option through the Spring Cove School District that provides online curriculum for K-12 students through blendedschools.net and other online content providers.
Which students are eligible to take online courses?
Any student who is a Spring Cove resident may enroll in the Spring Cove Cyber School as a full-time cyber student and take blendedschools.net courses at no cost to the student or family provided that the courses are completed with passing grades by the established deadlines. Course requests from students who attend a Spring Cove school will be reviewed on an individual basis. The primary purpose of assigning a student to a blendedschools.net or other online course or program is to provide a rigorous course not otherwise available - either because the course is not offered or because of a limited schedule. Wanting to avoid a certain teacher or class or to provide opportunities to work are not acceptable reasons for enrollment.
What are some advantages of being a Spring Cove cyber student?
Students enrolled in the Spring Cove Cyber School will receive a Central High School diploma following the successful completion of the Central High School graduation requirements. Spring Cove Cyber School students are eligible to participate in a variety of extra-curricular learning experiences including sports, musical activities and technology and vocational training opportunities. Students have the option of attending regular Spring Cove classes, if interested. Full-time Spring Cove Cyber School students will be provided with an academic advisor to visit and consult with the student and parent or guardian and to assist with keeping track of assignments and grades, troubleshoot technical difficulties and to facilitate communication between the students, parents and online teachers. College credits can be earned for some courses.
What resources will be provided by Spring Cove?
Spring Cove School District will provide the hardware (computer and printer), reimbursement for Internet connection, and any textbooks that may be required for blendedschools.net courses. Spring Cove will also provide an academic advisor who will be available to visit and consult with the student and parents.
What is expected of students and parents?
Since parental support is a key component of any successful online learning program, parents or guardians are expected to monitor, support and encourage each student based on the student’s motivation level and ability to work independently. A good guideline is to plan to spend one hour per course or subject each day. The actual amount of time required to successfully complete a course will vary based on the grade level of the student, the number of assignments, the difficulty level of the assignments, the amount of support and supervision provided by a parent or guardian and the rate at which the student comprehends the content and completes the assignments. Each student is required to participate in online learning activities and complete assignments based on the course schedule provided by the online teacher. Students and/or parents will document time spent working on online and offline coursework and learning activities in a daily log. Physical activity will also be documented in order to fulfill the Pennsylvania physical education requirements. Students will be required to complete all grade-level local assessments as well as the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) exams. Students who wish to receive a Central High School diploma must meet all of the Spring Cove Cyber School online learning guidelines. Details regarding grading and payment for courses that are not successfully completed are included in the Spring Cove Cyber School online learning guidelines.

How do I enroll a student in the Spring Cove Cyber School?
All decisions regarding online courses must be made before August 1 to allow time for student enrollment, student scheduling, supply orders and equipment configuration. If your student is not currently enrolled as a Spring Cove student, please contact Spring Cove Superintendant Mr. Rodney Green. Mr. Green and/or Spring Cove Instructional Technology Specialist, Arlin Roth, will meet with you to discuss the Spring Cove Cyber School program. Current Spring Cove students should contact their guidance counselor. Since online learning is not the most effective learning format for all students, the principal and guidance counselor will review each request to determine if a student will be considered for online learning. Students entering grades 6-8 will need to meet with SCMS guidance counselor, Mrs. Kim Smith, to select courses for scheduling. Students entering grades 9-12 will need to meet with one of the CHS guidance counselors to review the graduation requirements and select courses for scheduling. Once approved for online learning, students who are not currently enrolled as Spring Cove students will need to complete and return a student enrollment packet which is available at any Spring Cove school or at the district administration building.
Can students enroll in courses that require a tuition fee?
Tuition for courses offered through blendedschools.net partner organizations will be paid for students who are full-time Spring Cove Cyber School students or full-time Spring Cove students provided that the student successfully completes the course by the established deadline. Students who do not successfully complete a course (withdraw or failure to earn credit) will be required to pay the full amount that Spring Cove School District is charged for the course. A variety of advanced placement courses are available through Advanced Academics. College courses are available through Allegany College of Maryland. A complete listing of partner organizations can be found under Network > Associates on the blendedschools.net web site.
