Dancing Bean Beans Beans....

As part of a "Project PA" Grant, Spring Cove's Food and Nutrition Department is educating kids on the nutritional benefits of eating beans.

Beans, Beans, the musical fruit.... Actually, beans fit into the VEGETABLE and MEAT group.

  • Beans are a plant food, which makes them a vegetable.  
  • Beans also have protein and iron, which are nutrients found in meat, chicken, fish, and eggs
  • Beans belong to a family of plants called legumes.
  •   Why should I care about Protein?
    Ø Helps build bones, muscles, and skin  Ø Helps you feel full
  •   Why should I care about Fiber?
           ØHelps you feel full after a meal  

   ØHelps with regularity going to the bathroom

     
  • May help reduce the risk of
    heart disease  Cancer  Helps control Blood Sugar

How can we add beans to our diets?

  • Garbanzo beans or "chick peas" to your salad
  • Black bean salsa
  • Add beans to soup
  • Bean burritos
  • Add beans to Tacos
  • Hummus & Chips
  • Snack on Soy nuts
  • Green Beans and Peas as a side dish
