2005 Camp Highlights

Computer Camp Makes Learning Fun

Twenty-six area middle school students gave up a week of summer vacation to attend Spring Cove School District’s Kids’ Computer Camp.  The camp was held June 20-24 at The CENTER in Roaring Spring and was sponsored by Blair Technology Group.

The camp provided opportunities for students to use computers, digital cameras, handheld computers and digital music players to explore topics such as web page design, digital photography, editing digital photos, graphic design, use of handheld computers, searching the internet, online messaging and digital music.

On the last day of camp, students worked in teams to present information learned during the week as well as sample work from each student to a group of approximately fifty parents and family members.

In addition to working with computers and other electronic devices, students also enjoyed daily games, snacks and outdoor recreation time.  At the end of each day, students spent a few minutes writing in their journals. On the last day of camp, parents were invited to write a journal entry regarding the projects that they observed and the feedback that they received from their students.

Jennifer Wismeyer, mother of Jordan Wismeyer wrote "What a fun camp.  I wish you had it all summer.  Thanks for making it so fun for the kids.  We will be back next year."

Tyler McGraw’s mother, Patty, wrote "Our son had a great time at camp!  He wants to come back next year.  His web site has already been sent to our Oklahoma family. He's pretty proud of the self-portrait.  Thanks for a great week".

The camp staff was composed of Mrs. Cathy Schimminger, Technology Administrator, Mr. Arlin Roth, Instructional Technology Specialist, Mr. Stefan Grill, Learning Support Teacher, Mrs. Lisa King, Library Aide, Mrs. Elaine Tremmel, Technology Specialist, and Mrs. Becky Pastva, Administrative Assistant.  Mrs. Alice Wilson also attended many of the camp sessions and served as the camp grandmother.
