Summer Camp Makes Learning Fun
Eleven area middle school students gave up a week of summer vacation to attend Spring Cove School District’s Summer Kids' Camp. The camp was held June 19-23 at The CENTER in Roaring Spring and was sponsored by Paradigm Solutions (formerly Blair Technology Group).
The week-long camp
included opportunities for students to use computers, digital cameras, and
handheld computers to explore topics such as web page design, digital
photography, editing digital photos, and use of handheld computers.
In addition to working with computers and other electronic devices, students learned about blue birds, built a birdhouse (donated by the Pennsylvania Game Commission), created an art project and prepared a snack which was served to family members who attended the student presentations on the last day of camp. Students enjoyed daily games, snacks and outdoor recreation time. On the last day of camp, students worked in teams to present information learned during the week as well as sample work from each student to parents and family members.
The camp staff was composed of Mrs. Cathy Schimminger, Technology Administrator, Mr. Arlin Roth, Instructional Technology Specialist, Mr. Mark Reed, Art Teacher, Mrs. Lois Sollenberger, Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher, Mr. Richard Gooderham "Pap", and Mrs. Elaine Tremmel, Technology Specialist. Assistance was also provided by Brad Baumgartner and Lori Patterson.
