Child Development Student Syllabus.doc 4/29/2009

In this class students will be using a textbook as well as some videos, along with class discussions with the teacher about children.  We will be going over the whole area of child development including what is a family, and how that concept has changed over the years.  We will discuss both contraception as well as conception.  Students will have the opportunity to experience some of what is like to care for a newborn, by taking home one of the "Real Care" baby dolls.  These dolls are computerized and programmed to behave much like a real newborn would.  Students will have to feed, change, burp, and rock the baby in order to make it stop crying.  This is a challenging and realistic simulation.  Students do have the option of doing an extensive research project in place of the "Real Care Baby" project.
