Physical Education Course Description

      The purpose of the physical education class is to familiarize students with a wide variety of large group activities, team sports, and lifetime fitness.  To graduate, each student needs to pass 4 physical education classes.

Instructional Time:  5 days     2-9 Week Marking Periods     42 Minute class

Objectives:
     1.  An understanding of basic physical fitness and individual fitness levels and goals
     2.  A basic awareness of various lifetime sports
     3.  An understanding of rules, techniques and sportsmanship of team play

Content Used TO Achieve Objectives:
     1.  Instruction through demonstration in basic skill levels for the different sports, activites
          and aerobics.
     2.  Actual participation in game situations.
     3.  Organizations of tournament play.
     4.  Lecture and explanation of importance of lifetime fitness.

Activities:
     1.  Physical Fitness-push-ups, situps, mile run 50 yard dash, and jump rope.
     2.  Weight Training-improve general fitness level.
     3.  Aerobics-develop cardiovascular fitness and coordination.
     4.  Basketball and Dodgeball-develop sportsmanship and fair play.
     5.  Stunts-demonsrate a degree of coordination, timing and agility.
     6.  Decathlon-basic skills of strength, agility, stamina, speed and coordination.
     7.  Team Activities-understand and develop basic team strategies for different sports.
     8.  Large Group Games-Ex:  soccer, frisbee football and volleyball

    Each student will be given a percentage grade at the end of the nine-week course.  Grades will be determined through class participation, attendance, attitude, proper dress, basic skill observation and various fitness tests.

Grading Scale:  100-93  A     92-85  B     84-77  C     76-70  D  Below 70  E

Grades will be determined as follows:
        Classroom participation                                        60%

        Application of skill                                                20%
        Testing:  Ex. Mile, Sit-ups, Push-ups, decathlon    20%
