What can SAP do for Students?
SAP is available to all students in the school setting. If you or another student you know is experiencing difficulties in school or issues with drugs/alcohol, depression, suicidal thoughts, or other concerns, please talk to a teacher, counselor or principal. SAP can help to identify and determine what services are appropriate to help students who are struggling. This may involve monitoring a student‘s school progress, individual counseling, group counseling, or a referral for outside counseling or treatment.
Is participation in SAP mandatory?
If a student is referred to SAP for a violation of the school district‘s drug and alcohol policy, participation in drug and alcohol assessment/counseling is required. Otherwise, participation in SAP is voluntary for students who are referred for other reasons.
What about Confidentiality?
Names and information about students who are referred to SAP are kept confidential by the SAP team with the best interest of students kept in mind. Names and information about students participating in SAP services WILL NOT be released to other students or teachers. Remember, parents are notified and parental permission must be received in order for SAP services to begin.
If you have other questions about SAP, stop in the Guidance Office and ask Mrs. Thompson.
