   Signs & Symptoms of Adolescents At-Risk

Academic Performance Drop in Grades; Failure to Complete Assignments; Decrease in Class Participation; Short Attention Span; Sleeping in Class
School Attendance Absenteeism; Constantly late for Class; Frequent Visits to the Nurse or Restroom
Disruptive Behavior Defiance of Rules; Emotional Highs and Lows; Verbal Abuse; Blaming, Denying, Lying
Physical Symptoms Deteriorating Personal Appearance; Sleeping in Class; Smell of Alcohol or Marijuana; Bloodshot Eyes
Atypical Behavior Change in Friends; Erratic Behavior; Isolating Themselves; Talks Freely about Drug Use; Disoriented; Older Social Group; Rebellion
 Illicit Activities  Vandalism; Theft; Sexual Behavior in Public; Carrying a Weapon; Legal Problems
Extra-Curricular Activities Loss of Eligibility; Dropped Out; Not Informing Parents of Actvities
Signs of Depression Mood Swings; Fatigue, sleeplessness, sleep disturbances; Inability to Concentrate; Boredom; Lack of Interest in food, family, friends, life in general; Feelings of Worthlessness, hopelessness; Frequent crying; Agitated, irritable; Many Physical Complaints; Isolation from Family and Friends; Frequent Negative Remarks

Warning Signs of being At-Risk for Suicide

Depressed Mood; Decline in School Performance; Preoccupation with death/dying; Increased Irritability; Giving Away Possessions; Previous Suicide Attempts; Sudden Lifting of Severe Depression; Increased Social Withdrawl; Major Changes in Eating/Sleeping; Loss of Interest in Pleasurable Activities; Verbal Expression of Self-Death; Depression or grief following loss of significant other; Recent Withdrawl from Therapy or Counseling; Loss of a Friend or Relative to Suicide
