Senior Year Information

SENIOR YEAR GUIDANCE INFORMATION

COLLEGE and OTHER POST-SECONDARY SCHOOLS

·        APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Students need to bring completed applications including application fee and any letters of recommendation to Mr. Carlson or Mrs. Burket.  Mr. Carlson will complete any counselor sections; prepare your transcript including SAT & ACT test scores along with a listing of senior year schedule.  ONLY COMPLETED applications will be accepted.

·        LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATIONS: Students who need letters sent along with their applications should give the person writing the letter at least a “2” week notice.  It is your responsibility to adhere to application deadlines.  Failure to ask for recommendations far enough in advance will delay your application and you may miss a deadline.  Students should choose a teacher or other person whom is very familiar with them academically and personally when considering a recommendation letter.

·        SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION: Students need to listen for announcements and visit  the scholarship information table in the guidance office to locate current scholarship opportunities.  Also, the following websites offer numerous scholarship opportunities:

Educationplanner.org

Fastweb.com

wiredscholars.com

Students will need to be verypersistent in their efforts on line to secure scholarship offerings.  Students may access the Internet from the Guidance Office.  Ask Mr. Carlson for access.

·        FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION: Each senior attending a Post-Secondary School after graduation should file the FAFSA online.  Approximately 4-6 weeks after you file, you will receive a student aid report (SAR).  Review this document, make any changes and mail back.  If no changes are necessary, you will then have all of your information on the computer network at your school of choice.  Further financial aid questions should be directed to the financial aid office at your chosen school.  State Grant program applications known as (PHEAA) Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency will be sent to students provided they have filed a  FAFSA application.  If not, these applications can be obtained from your lending institution (BANK).
