CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL

TENNIS 2008-09

 

  1. Physical forms must be signed and turned in before any athlete can practice.

 

  1. Practice will be 4:30-8:00 the two full weeks before school starts (August 11-15 & 18-22).  Starting August 25 and every day after school - practice will run from 3:15 to 5:30 and will continue during the season except on match days.  Special circumstances may warrant time changes.                                                                                                                                          
  2. Practices are mandatory.  Three unexcused absences may result in an expulsion from the team. The coach must be notified BEFORE practice begins.  Contact Coach Riley on his cell phone.  You may be excused from practice for:

  1. Illness with a doctor’s excuse
  2. Unavoidable work schedule-previously approved by the coach
  3. Circumstances beyond your control-see the coach

 

 

  1. If you have an unexcused absence the day before a match, you will not be permitted to participate in the match

 

  1. No student shall practice or play in a match on days that they are absent from school or tardy passed 9:30

 

  1. If you do not handle yourself appropriately on the court you will forfeit the match that day.  The result will be a one-week suspension from matches.  Two suspensions will result in an expulsion from the team for the year.

 

  1. Challenge matches will consist of a 10 game proset match.  A player may callenge one position ahead.  Challenges can occur any time whether a player wins or loses their previous match.  The coach may also initiate if he feels the need once the season is underway.  If the lower seed wins, the receive the higher position. 

 

  1. You are expected to be honest with all line calls.  If you are not sure where the ball landed, then it will be called in.  If there is a problem, notify the coach.

 

  1. Even though this is an individual sport, all members need to work together as a team to improve.  You need to show respect for yourself, other members and other teams’ athletes.

 

  1.  To earn a Varsity Letter in tennis, a player must earn a point for the team or have participated in at least 50% of the singles matches. A letter may also be earned for exemplary participation at the discretion of the coach.
