2008 Game Summaries

VARSITY

CHS 9 Penns Valley 8

Central opened up the 2008 season with a thrilling 9-8 win over Penns Valley.  After allowing Penns Valley to score 4 runs in the top of the 7th to tie the score at 8, Jordon Saylor hit a bases loaded shot over the center fielders head to score Jared Snowberger with the winning run.  Saylor had two hits on the day including a double and three RBI's and 3 runs scored.  Drew Ebersole added two doubles and 4 RBI's to lead the hitting attack.  Tyler Nash started and struck out 8 before giving way to sophomore Jordon Saylor who picked up the win in relief striking out 2.  CHS begins the season at 1-0.

CHS 10  Williamsburg 3

Junior Jacob Russell threw 4 innings of shutout ball striking out 6 and walking none to pick up his first win of the year.  Jon Ewart was 2 for 2 at the plate and Drew Ebersole pounded out 2 hits as well to lead the hitting attack.  Central improves to 2-0 on the season.

CHS 1 Indian Valley 12

CHS dropped its first game of the year to the visiting Warriors of Indian Valley.  Tyler Nash took the loss striking out 5 and walking only one.  Five errors were costly for the Dragons on the day.  Ryan Neil had 2 singles and Jordon Saylor pounded out a triple for Central.  Central falls to 2-1 on the season.

CHS 15 Tyrone 12

Central overcame 10 errors to down Tyrone 15-12 in league action.  Jacob Russell started throwing 5 innings and striking out 5.  Jordon Saylor picked up the win in relief.  Tyler Nash was a perfect 5 for 5 at the plate with a double and two RBI's.  Drew Ebersole added three hits including a triple and drove in four runs.  Jon Ewart added two hits and scored 4 runs.  Saylor, Tyler Simpson and Ryan Neil all had two RBIs.  Central improves to 3-1 overall.

CHS 6 Bellwood 7

Behind 7-0 after 2 innings, the Scarlet Dragons battled back only to fall short 6-7 against Bellwood.  Central stranded 14 runners on base including the bases loaded in the 6th and 7th innings in picking up their second loss of the year.  Tyler Nash continued to swing a hot stick as he was 3 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBI's.  Jordon Saylor and Jared Snowberger added 2 hits as well and Ryan Neil drove in two.  Marcus Morgan and Drew Ebersole both threw well in relief for the Dragons.  Central drops to 3-2 overall.

CHS 6 Bald Eagle 8

Central fell to the defending state champion Eagles 8-6 on Monday afternoon.  CHS battled back to make the score 5-4 in the 3rd inning after giving up four unearned runs to start the game, but it wasn't enough.  Jordon Saylor was 2 for 4 at the plate as was Tyler Simpson who also stroked a double.  CHS left 10 men on base.  They fall to 3-3 overall and take on Philipsburg Wednesday.

CHS 1 Philipsburg 13

Little went right for Central as they fell to Philipsburg.  Tyler Simpson had a double among only three hits the Dragons could muster on the day.  Jacob Russell took the loss.  CHS falls to 3-4 overall.

CHS 3 Huntingdon 4

CHS gave up two runs in the sixth at Huntingdon Monday afternoon and fell 3-4 to the Bearcats.  Tyler Nash gave up only 3 hits and struck out 5 and deserved a better fate on the hill.  The Dragons could only muster 6 hits on the day and had trouble coming up with a key hit with men on base.  Jacob Russell had a double and 1 RBI to lead the offense.  Central falls to 3-5 overall.

CHS 11 Lewistown 3

Jacob Russell picked up the win on the mound striking out 6 and also added two hits including a two run homerun and 3 RBI's.  Drew Ebersole pounded out 2 doubles and drove in 3 runs.  Tyler Simpson added a double among his two hits along with two walks.  Central improves to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in league play.

CHS 5 Bellefonte 14

Central could not hold onto  a 5th inning lead as they let Bellefonte score 10 runs in the 5th and 6th innings to fall to 4-6 on the year.  Jacob Russell took the loss on the mound.  Tyler Simpson had a single and walked three times to lead the offense.Tyler Nash, Ryan Neil, and Lucas Runk all added doubles.  Centrals record stands at 4-6

CHS 14 Bishop Walsh 13

Central opened up the 2008 Curve Classic with an edge of your seat  game against Bishop Walsh from Cumberland Maryland.  Central had several big leads only to let the Spartans back in the game.  Finally in the bottom of the 9th Drew Ebersole drove in Jordon Saylor with the winning run.  Saylor held the Spartans in check in the bottom of the inning to pick up his 3rd win of the year.  Offensive leaders were abundant as Jon Ewart had a hit and walked 3 times along with a hit by pitch.  Tyler Nash had 3 singles.  Jordon Saylor had 3 hits including a triple and 2 RBI's.  Drew Ebersole had 2  hits and 2 RBI's and Ryan Neil had 2 hits and 3 RBI's.  Pinch hitters Wes Flaugh, Lucas Runk, and Trent Forshey all came up with big time clutch hits for the Dragons as well.  Central improves to 5-6 overall.

CHS 12 Punxstawney 7

Central exploded for 6 runs in the second and four in the 4th inning to advance to the championship game of the Curve Classic.  Tyler Nash picked up the complete game win striking out 5.  Jon Ewart had a double and two RBI and walked twice from his lead off spot.  Tyler Simson had a double and 2 RBI as wll as walking twice.  Wes Flaugh had two hits and 2 RBI to pace the offense.

CHS 9 Clearfield 10

Central battled back from an 8-1 deficit to tie the game at 8 only to fall to Cearfield.  The Dragons had runners at 2nd and 3rd when the final out was recorded.  Senior Tyler Nash was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI.  Sophomore Jordon Saylor recorded 2 hits and freshman Lucas Runk added 2 hits as well.  Junior Wes Flaugh came up with a big clutch pinch hit that drove in 2 runs as did freshman Trent Forshey.  Freshman Jared Baird was the tough luck loser as he threw 3 innings and gave up only 1 earned run.  Central falls to 6-7 as they finish runner up in the 6th annual Curve Classic.  They are back in action Monday against Penns Valley.

CHS 13 Bedford 9

Central built a 10-1 lead and held onto beat Bedford 13-9 Wednesday afternoon.  Jacob Russell picked up the win on the hill striking out 7 in a complete game victory and only giving up 4 earned runs.  Jordon Saylor had a stellar day at the plate going 4 for 5 with 3 doubles and a home run.  He drove in 5 runs as well.  Drew Ebersole had 2 hits including a home run and drove in 2 runs.  Senior DH Tyler Simpson added 3 RBI on the day and Wes Flaugh came up with another clutch pinch hit that drove in two runs.  Central improves to 7-7 overall and will finish a suspended game with Claysburg tomorrow.

CHS 4 Claysburg 3

Picking up a suspended game in the second inning tied 3-3, Tyler Simpson drove in Trent Forshey in the 5th inning with the games winning run.  Tyler Nash pitched six innings of one hit ball striking out 7.  Simpson was a perfect 3 for 3 with a home run and drove in all 4 Scarlet Dragon runs in the game.  The Dragons improve to 8-7 overall with the win.  Central will face league rival Tyrone Monday.

CHS 9 Tyrone 2

Tyler Nash threw the first 5 innings striking out 6 and giving up no runs on 2 hits.  He has now thrown 11 straight scoreless innings.    Jordon Saylor led the offense with 3 hits including two doubles and 2 walks.  He also drove in 4 runs.  Jon Ewart, Tyler Nash, and Ryan Neil all added two hits to the the 14 hit barrage on the day.  Drew Ebersole added a solo home run.  Central improves to 9-7 overall and will play Bald Eagle Wednesday at home.

CHS 5 Bald Eagle 10

Central dropped a league game Wednesday to Bald Eagle as the defense had a rough day committing 8 errors and allowing 6 unearned runs.  Jacob Russell took the loss on the hill throwing well for 5 innings before giving way to Marcus Morgan who threw 2 innings of good baseball.  Drew Ebersole was a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with 2 doubles and 2 RBI.  Jon Ewart also rapped out 2 hits among Central's 10 total.  The Dragons left 10 men on base on the day.  Central falls to 9-8 overall and anxiously awaits tomorrow's game at Penns Valley.

CHS 10 Philipsburg 8

After faltering on many chances early in the game, the Dragon offense exploded for 5 runs in the sixth inning to beat Philipsburg Tuesday afternoon.  Six Dragons saw time on the hill with freshman Jared Baird throwing two innings for the win and sophomore CJ Gahagan picked up his first save of the year throwing a scoreless seventh.  Wes Flaugh led the O with a solo homerun and double to go along with 3 RBI.  Tyler Nash was 2 for 3 with a double and Jordon Saylor was 2 for 3 and added a double as well.  Jacob Russell added a solo round tripper in the win.  Central finishes the regular season at 10-8-1.  They will travel to Southern Huntingdon for the first round of playoffs Thursday.

CHS 5 Southern Huntingdon 4

Central picked up an exciting win in game 1 of the 2008 playoffs.  Senior Tyler Nash threw another gem giving up only 1 earned run and striking out 2.  Junior 3 bagger Drew Ebersole pounded two RBI doubles to deep right field to lead the Dragon offense.  Freshman Lucas Runk hit a fifth inning two run bomb to left field to pick up two RBI on the day and senior catcher Jon Ewart added two hits including a double.  Central improves to 11-8-1 with the win.  They will travel to Blairsville for round 2 of the playoffs Monday at 4:00.

CHS 5 Blairsville 7

Ahead 2-0 until the fifth inning, the Scarlet Dragons couldn't hold on as they lost in the district quarterfinals to Blairsville 5-7.  Tyler Nash took the tough loss on the hill striking out 5 and giving up 3 earned runs.  Jordon Saylor had a double and triple to lead the offense and Drew Ebersole added a two RBI triple in the top of the sixth and scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 5.  Blairsville scored two in the bottom of the sixth to set the final score.  The Dragons had plenty of chances as they stranded 5 runners on 3rd base throughout the game.  Central finishes the season at 11-9-1.  The future looks bright for the Dragons as the jv squad posted an impressive 10-3 record and 10 lettermen will return in 2009 along with 6 full time starters.  The six seniors: Tyler Nash, Jon Ewart, Jared Snowberger, Tyler Simpson, Jordan Hardy, and Ryan Blattenberger all had excellent careers and will be missed.  The Dragon Baseball team wishes them all the best in the future and thank them for their contributions to our program.
