DRAGON COACHING STAFF
Head Coach - A-J Hoenstine
Coach Hoenstine has served as an assistant coach for nine years before taking over as head coach in 2007. He is a 1994 graduate of Central High School where he was a three sport standout and enjoyed a very successful athletic career. After being recruited by many schools for baseball and football, he attended Mansfield University to play baseball where he was the starting shortstop for four years and helped lead Mansfield to two PSAC championships in 1995 and 1997 and a number #1 ranking in the country in 1995. He won numerous all conference awards and was an academic All -American. He is the career leader in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference History in assists and bases on balls. Coach Hoenstine is the head football coach at CHS and a science teacher at the Spring Cove Middle School.
Assistant Coach - Reggie Nevins
Coach Nevins has served as an assistant coach for the past 25 years. He helped guide the 1983 dragon team to a state runner-up finish. He is a 1972 graduate of Central High School. He attended Slippery Rock University where he was a member of the Rock Baseball Team. He previously served as the head basketball coach at Central High School where he totaled more than 350 wins which is the most in Blair County History. Coach Nevins is a mathematics teacher at the Spring Cove Middle School.
Assistant Coach - Robbie Keith
Coach Keith is set to begin his second season on the coaching staff in 2008 season. Coach Keith will work with the catchers and outfielders this season. He was a standout baseball player and MVP of the team. He also was a standout basketball player at CHS graduating in 1998. He continued playing collegiately at Shippensburg University where he was a catcher and pitcher. Coach Keith is a social studies teacher at Central High School.
Assistant Coach - Joey Hinton
Coach Hinton will be in charge of the pitchers during the 2008 season. He was a three sport athlete at CHS graduating in 2001. He led the Scarlet Dragons to a district championship and was named team MVP his senior season. Joe went on to pitch for Mt. Aloysius College graduating in 2006 after a stellar career there.
Vol. Assistant Coach - David Hoenstine
Coach Hoenstine is a 1974 graduate of Claysburg Kimmel High School where he was a three sport athlete. He attended South Georgia Junior College, where his team was ranked 8th in the country before signing a professional contract with the Cinncinnati Reds. He was the Reds MVP and A Ball player of the year in 1978, played on two league all-star teams in 1978 and 1979 and enjoyed a very successful five year career with the Reds. He also spent time scouting for the Reds and the Marlins. Coach graduated from West Virginia University where he was part of the baseball staff. Coach Hoenstine served 15 years as the head coach since 1992-2006. His teams won 2 district championships 2001 & 2003. He is currenly a health, physical education and drivers education teacher at Central High School.
